Donate to Provide Healthcare For Maine’s Farmworkers
Farmworkers are the Foundation of Maine’s Agricultural Economy
Every year, thousands of people arrive in Maine to plant, harvest, and process our food. From handpicking wild blueberries in Washington County, preparing holiday wreaths from balsam firs, and packing potatoes in the County, these workers are the driving force behind Maine’s most iconic industries.

Maine’s agricultural sector generates over $940 million annually for the state economy. None of it would be possible without the people who work on farms.
These are the people who put food on our tables. They wake before dawn and work long hours, often in brutal weather, to bring food from the fields to our plates. Yet while their labor sustains us, many cannot access the most basic healthcare services.
Farmworkers and their families are part of our community, as our neighbors, friends, and family.
Many workers say they come to Maine for the work and return for the healthcare that Maine Mobile Health provides.
We have a responsibility and a duty to provide care for patients.

About Maine Mobile Health
Cultivating Healthcare For the People That Feed Us

Maine Mobile Health Program is the state’s only healthcare organization dedicated solely to serving agricultural workers and their families.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and nonprofit, we bring compassionate care to one of Maine’s most essential populations.
Our mission is simple but powerful: to improve the health status of Maine’s seasonal agricultural workers and their families.
We achieve this through a collaborative, community-based model that includes:
● A statewide fleet of mobile medical units
● A network of doctors, nurses, counselors, and educators
● Community Health Workers fluent in the languages our patients speak
● Partnerships with growers, primary care providers, and local nonprofits
We serve over 1,000 agricultural workers annually and maintain more than 100 voucher contract sites to extend care across the state.
Whether conducting health screenings in the blueberry barrens, providing mental health support in dairy housing, or delivering prenatal care to a seasonal worker, our goal remains the same: everyone deserves healthcare, no matter where they work or how much they earn.

Your Gift Saves Lives. These Stories Prove It.
When you support MMHP, you’re not just funding services—you’re transforming lives. The following stories are real accounts (with names changed for privacy) of how your generosity makes a difference every day in the fields, clinics, and homes of farmworkers.

Adrian’s Story: A Life Saved by Vigilance
Adrian thought his dental surgery had gone smoothly—thanks to our Community Health Worker, who had arranged every detail with care, from scheduling the appointment to coordinating transportation.
But during a routine follow-up call, the CHW noticed something wasn’t right. Adrian mentioned unusual bleeding, dizziness, and fatigue. When she couldn’t reach him again, she didn’t stop—she contacted one of his family members out of concern.
That decision may have saved his life.
Adrian was found confused and seriously unwell. He was rushed to a provider and treated for a dangerous post-procedure hemorrhage. Thanks to her persistence, Adrian is now recovering well.
Your support empowers frontline workers to act fast, follow through, and save lives.
Sara’s Story: Safety Training That Made the Difference
After years of working in the fields, Sara finally attended a health and safety workshop hosted by MMHP. There, she learned to recognize the signs of heat stroke and pesticide exposure—training many farmworkers never receive.
Just two weeks later, Sara spotted a coworker in distress—dizzy, confused, and not sweating. She remembered what she learned, called for help, and stayed with him until he received emergency care.
That training saved a life. And it only happened because of your support.
Daniel’s Story: Blood Pressure, Broken Systems, and a Second Chance
Daniel hadn’t seen a doctor in years. He called MMHP looking for help—and reached one of our Community Health Workers. He had been checking his blood pressure on his own, but his monitor was faulty.
Our CHW sent him a new cuff and helped him connect with a primary care provider. At first, things seemed fine—until she realized Daniel had been taking his readings incorrectly.
Once corrected, his blood pressure read 198/120. A crisis in the making.
Our team worked to get him immediate care, likely preventing a serious event like a stroke or heart attack.
Your support bridges gaps in care, equips patients with the tools they need, and catches warning signs before it’s too late.
Victor’s Story: Listening, Trust, and the Power of Advocacy
Victor, a 50-year-old farmworker, came to MMHP with symptoms no one had been able to explain. One of our Community Health Workers consulted with the Medical Director. They helped get Victor to the ER and even served as his interpreter.
But twice he was admitted and discharged with no answers.
Still, Victor knew something was wrong. Our staff kept following up, advocating for him when others dismissed his concerns. Eventually, doctors discovered a serious heart issue.
Victor had been misjudged—seen through the lens of bias and misunderstanding. But with MMHP by his side, he was able to get the diagnosis, medication, and education he needed. We helped him manage his 10 medications, overcome barriers like transportation and literacy, and ultimately become his own health advocate.
This is what happens when someone takes the time to truly listen. That’s the difference your support makes.
