Aroostook County Community Health Worker or Medical Assistant – Seasonal June to October

The Maine Mobile Health Program (MMHP) seeks an individual for a unique outreach position in Aroostook County. The Community Health Worker (CHW) or Medical Assistant (MA) facilitates access to care and services for broccoli and forestry workers in the region, particularly through our mobile clinics. MMHP is Maine’s only farmworker health program and provides mobile clinics to farmworkers across the state to reduce the barriers that they face to accessing medical care. Promoting health equity and racial equity are foundations to MMHP’s mission to “improve the health status of Maine’s seasonal workers and their families by providing culturally appropriate care and services.” If you are interested in working in a dynamic and diverse healthcare environment, we want to hear from you!

The CHW or MA will provide health outreach services to farmworkers in the Presque Isle area (including Caribou, Limestone, Ashland and Westfield) and other regional sites as assigned.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Outreach to farmworker camps
  • Facilitation of mobile clinics (including driving the mobile unit, registering patients, interpreting for the clinicians, and tracking follow-up needs)
  • Health education

Ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, be able to empathize with patients, and have a commitment to supporting farmworkers in Maine with their access to health care. Preferably this individual should have an understanding of the farmworker community either because of prior work, relationship in/to the community and/or other life experience such as shared language or culture. The candidate should be comfortable working in community settings and able to work independently. Reliable transportation/clean driving record and basic computer skills are required, and an ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is preferred, but not required. This is a part-time role for June through October with an evening schedule, occasional weekend and daytime hours depending on availability. If you are interested, schedules are negotiable (including for summer only).  Please contact our program!

COVID-19 Vaccination is required.
