Mobile Unit Driver – Seasonal

The Maine Mobile Health Program seeks individuals to drive and maintain its fleet of mobile medical units. The Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Driver is a trusted member of the team who will drive the MMU to and from clinics, clean and re-stock the vehicle, and assist with intake and coordination of services during the blueberry and wreaths season clinics. MMHP is Maine’s only farmworker health program and provides mobile clinics to farmworkers across the state to reduce the barriers that they face to accessing medical care. Promoting health equity and racial equity are part of the foundations of MMHP’s mission to “improve the health status of Maine’s seasonal workers and their families by providing culturally appropriate care and services.”

This position will be based in either Central or Downeast Maine with clinics ranging in the region from West Paris to Skowhegan or Ellsworth to Cutler, respectively.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Drive mobile medical units to farmworker housing and other community settings
  • Set up and break down clinics
  • Cleaning interior and exterior of mobile units
  • Inventory of supplies
  • Communication with staff related to logistics and stocking
  • Assist with intake / registration and management of clinic flow as requested
  • Vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting – education and training provided

Ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, organization, and attention to detail, and have a commitment to supporting seasonal farmworkers in Maine with their access to health care. The candidate should be comfortable working in mobile settings and with a flexible schedule. This position will be 10-40 hours per week from mid June through December, with an evening schedule and some weekend or daytime hours. The position runs for a minimum of 6 weeks and up to 5 months. If you are interested, schedules are negotiable. Reliable transportation/clean driving record are required. Basic computer skills and an ability to speak, read and write in Spanish or Haitian Creole are helpful. Experience driving large vehicles is helpful. Housing can be provided for the duration if employed in the Downeast harvest area.
